Bus Hound, Reading Buses' gas-powered Wrightbus, replete with its 'Cow Poo Power' livery, achieved a maximum recorded speed of 80.78mph on the Millbrook Proving Ground high-speed circuit.
"As the vehicle gathered speed around the high speed bowl, our Fleet Manager began sending in over-speed alerts thick and fast – much to the delight of all of us monitoring the attempt in real time at our European HQ in Birmingham," explains Steve Coffin, marketing and operations director for MiX Telematics.
"Bus Hound also had us reaching for Wikipedia to see just how fast it is – and the news is that it's capable of outrunning two of the world's other three fastest animals.
That's because with a maximum recorded speed of 80.78 mph, Bus Hound is quicker than a cheetah (75mph) and the Black Marlin (80mph).
However, with a top speed of 242mph, even Bus Hound is no match for the ultra-rapid Peregrine Falcon.
"Nonetheless, as they say, two out of three ain't bad – and we'd like to send our wholehearted congratulations to Reading Buses on their successful attempt in setting a new world record in such an innovative and eye-catching manner," says Coffin.
