This shorter bus – dubbed BYD ADL Enviro200EV 10.8m – is designed to carry up to 79 passengers, 27 seated and will have a kerb weight of 12.6 tonnes.
Range under standard operating conditions (UITP SORT 2 test conditions - drivers air conditioning on) is claimed at 179 miles with a recharge time of 3.5 hours.
The first BYD/ADL 10.8-metre single decker will be on show at the CENEX Low Carbon Vehicle event, at Millbrook on 14—15 September (2016).
This initial vehicle has been built by BYD but future vehicles will form part of the BYD partnership with ADL, which is bodying Chinese-built powered chassis at its plant in Falkirk, Scotland.
“This is a significant extension of our pure electric bus family, which will have strong appeal to those many UK operators for whom a 12-metre bus is just too long,” states Isbrand Ho, managing director of BYD Europe.
“As with our first significant BYD ADL Enviro200EV order in the UK [51 12-metre electric buses for Go Ahead Group for use in London], we look forward to continuing to work with our colleagues at ADL to create an optimum product tailored to British requirements.”
Colin Robertson, chief executive of ADL, says that, as with the existing BYD pure-electric double decker, the Chinese original will evolve into a joint product, drawing on the strengths of BYD’s innovative iron-phosphate battery technology and ADL’s lightweight body.
The BYD/ADL Enviro200EV 10.8m is due for UK availability in the first half of 2017.
