Cartwright apprentice keeps it in the family

A teenage apprentice at trailer maker Cartwright has been helping to build an order for his father’s haulage business.

Jack Walker, aged 16, approached Cartwright and secured a role as apprentice welder at its facility in Altrincham.

Jack (pictured with his father, Neil Walker) applied for the role without divulging his family connections to the sector – his father is managing director of Stockport-based Robert Walker Haulage.

Neil Walker says: "We have just ordered four trailers from Cartwright and Jack has had great fun working on these trailers destined for the family business. In fact he has even welded a plate on the rear of the trailers to commemorate his work.

"We are delighted Jack has settled in so well at Cartwright. Our family association with the company goes back over 50 years and they have an excellent reputation for quality and customer service, so we know he is in good hands and has great career prospects ahead of him," he adds.
