Ceram confirms Coca-Cola Enterprises biomethane trial fuel integrity

International materials technology firm Ceram, which was chosen by Cenex – the UK's centre of excellence for low carbon technologies – to analyse the fuel integrity of Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) biomethane vehicle trial, has given it the thumbs up.
CCE had compared the emissions, fuel consumption, economics, reliability and operability of biomethane- and diesel-driven commercial vehicles. The vehicles' performance was originally evaluated through a collaborative assessment project, which included Cenex, truck manufacturer Iveco and Gasrec, the fuel supplier. Now, Ceram, which has extensive experience of evaluating biogas, has confirmed a high methane content and low levels of contamination throughout the fuel supply chain. Stuart Watson, Ceram's organic chemistry delivery supervisor, says that the fuel exceeded the quality levels required by the vehicle manufacturer. "CCE are re-using waste and reducing their carbon footprint," comments Watson. "By taking an innovative approach, CCE have demonstrated the potential of biomethane as a vehicle fuel for other industries. We are pleased our analysis has helped them to do this."
