Ceva Logistics lines up 85 new Volvos for British Gypsum

Tractor Units
Ceva Logistics has taken delivery of 85 new Volvo FM tractors, for use on its contract with British Gypsum.

The FMs are all 3,800mm wheelbase, 6x2 fixed pusher axle tractor units with full air suspension, extra-low chassis height and low profile tyres.

Powered by the D11K Euro VI engine rated at 444bhp driving through I-Shift automated transmissions with 12 forward gears, the vehicles also come equipped with Volvo Engine Brakes (VEBs) to give 300kW of additional retardation.

Visibility of other road users is improved by the extra low chassis height, as well as factory-fitted lower glazed panels in the passenger doors. The new vehicles also have audible left turn alarms, CCTV camera systems and anti-spill fuel tanks. The FMs also have Thatcham H2 approved immobilisers.

Driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, advanced emergency braking, lane keeping warning and lane changing radar, with in-cab warning devices.

To promote safer trailer changing, Ceva Logistics has specified full width chassis catwalks and nearside Susie ground coupling equipment. The trailer connection indication system includes sensors for height, kingpin and coupling locks.

The new Volvo FM fleet is transporting British Gypsum’s interior lining systems from five manufacturing sites to more than 3,500 stockists throughout the UK.

Brian Fisher, distribution manager for British Gypsum, says: “We have a desire to be the safest road transport network in the UK and these new high-tech, best-in-industry vehicles will help us to achieve that vision.”
