Yesterday (9 November) FairFuelUK delivered a letter – see link below – to George Osborne, calling for a 3p reduction in the tax. It says the economic benefits will outweigh any loss of revenue to HM Treasury.
The measure is supported by many MPs, as well as the Freight Transport Association and the Road Haulage Association.
Separately, the FTA has handed its submission to the chancellor in which it says a 3p per litre reduction in fuel duty would ease cost pressures on domestic road freight, stimulate economic growth and create jobs.
The association is also calling for more government support for industry-led training schemes and student loan-type arrangements for those seeking to acquire vocational skills, as well as funding for improved roadside facilities.
