Check your bypass filter choice: Parker Racor warning

The key to bypass filtration today is ensuring that filters use tighter filtration media and offer several times more capacity than conventional full-flow filters.
That's the advice from Davinder Singh Bhogal, product manager at Parker Racor, who makes the point that such bypass filters can then remove much smaller soot and wear particles without interfering with oil flow rate in the engine. His advice is timely, given the increasing oil temperatures, higher combustion pressures, changes in oil due to after treatment systems and engine emission devices with Euro 6, all of which can contribute to shorter oil drain intervals. "High soot levels can also deplete the lubrication additives engineered into engine oil, which help enhance the oil's ability to reduce engine wear." Warns Singh Bhogal. "From a lubrication respect, oil additive packages may be completely different from what's used today," he continues. "Although there will be far less sulphur in the fuel, there will be some, so we will still be dealing with a sulphuric acid formation issue. "Bypass oil cleaners, such as the Racor Absolute series, are still the answer to reducing costs, reducing the waste stream and getting longer engine life."
