All were specified with Globetrotter XL cabs and the 500bhp power unit driving through Volvo’s I-Shift AMT (automated manual transmission).
Collier Haulage managing director Gregg Griffiths says his new FH-500 tractors – which are expected to cover 150,000km per annum – are delivering fuel returns of around 9mpg pulling a mix of Montracon and SDC curtainside trailers.
“From day one I’ve relied on Volvo,” comments Griffiths. “My first truck in 2010 was a used FH-460.
“It was basically just me and the truck – I drove, in the main, delivering empty pallets and exhibition stands, and the cab doubled-up as my office.”
Griffiths says his general haulage firm has since grown to 21 employees with a fleet entirely composed of FH tractor units, all with two-year R&M contracts from the Newport dealership.
“Put simply,” states Gregg, “Volvo trucks work and I’m not going to change something that’s not broken.
“I certainly think Volvo build better trucks than other manufacturers and this is borne out through their reliability. Furthermore, the I-Shift automated transmission is simply the best on the market, bar none.”
