Council boosts RCV safety with camera systems

Inverclyde Council has installed cameras, from Sentinel Systems, on to 11 of its refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) and is already reaping the benefits with improved safety and access to insurance-related evidence.

The Council chose Sentinel’s 360-degree cameras with recording, along with side scan and visual and rear radar warning.

The radar systems alert passers-by and cyclists when the vehicle is reversing, and cover any blind spots with visual and audio aids for the driver.

The cameras have an inbuilt DVR system, which captures up to 30 days of footage.

The side scanning sensors sound a warning when the left-hand indicator is activated and the vehicle is travelling at less than 15mph.
