Council switches from diesel to Shell GTL fuel for six-month trial

Bedford Borough Council has a started a six-month trial to assess the benefits of Shell GTL fuel in some of its fleet vehicles.

Supplied in the UK by Certas Energy, Shell GTL fuel is a drop-in, gas-to-liquid fuel, which requires no engine modifications and is proven to reduce air pollutants.

NOx can be cut by up to 37% and PM by up to 90%, and the fuel is also odourless and can reduce noise levels in some types of engine.

Councillor Dave Hodgson (pictured), mayor of Bedford Borough Council, says: “The council is committed to working in a greener way. We have led the way locally, reducing carbon emissions from our estate by more than half in recent years.

“This change to Gas to Liquid fuel will help our fleet to run more efficiently and produce fewer local emissions, and so have a positive impact on our local environment.”
