Strong demand for vans continues to carry the commercial vehicle market, according to the latest set of figures from the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders).
August's data suggests that the commercial vehicle market in the UK grew 11.9%, resulting in registrations increased to 214,959 for the year-to-date, up 13%.
The van market continued its strong growth, up 22.3% in August and 19.1% for the year-to-date, on to 192,948 registrations.
However, truck registrations were down again – this time 22% for the year-to-date, with a fall of 22.7% in August alone.
"Strong van registrations have led to another month of continued growth for the commercial vehicle market, with the demand for light commercial vehicles continuing to build," comments Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
"The truck market is still seeing the effects of a particularly strong end to 2013 ahead of the introduction of Euro-6," he points out, adding that stability will return, although "expectations for the year remain subdued".
