CV Show to see fastest fuel-saving CV aligner launch

What’s being described as an ultra-rapid, wireless wheel alignment system, designed to help truck, trailer, bus and coach fleets reduce running and maintenance costs, is slated for launch at the CV Show (14—16 April, 2015, NEC, Birmingham).

The Hunter system, available exclusively through Pro-Align, is claimed to be the first and only CV alignment system on the market capable of providing live alignment readings on three axles simultaneously.

Brett Hickey, commercial vehicle specialist at Pro-Align, says this capability, along with its impressive single roll compensation, means that workshops can now obtain a full wheel alignment diagnosis in four minutes.

"Fuel costs remain the number one priority for most operators and correct wheel alignment is an important factor in helping improve fuel consumption," states Hickey.

"While many [fleets] already appreciate the need for properly aligned wheels, current measurement systems often take in excess of 30 minutes, meaning that vehicles don't get checked as regularly as they should," he continues.

"By slashing measurement times, the new Hunter system is much more efficient and usable, and therefore offers the potential for substantial cost savings in both fuel and tyres."

Hickey says this latest system is a development from Hunter's established car and LCV alignment systems.

In operation, technicians simply attach sensors to six of the vehicle's wheels, he explains.

Jacking is not required as the rolling compensation operation is carried out in one short roll of the vehicle, which can be assisted with Hunter's EasiPush.

Live readings are transmitted to the system console with results provided in print, electronically by email and online via HunterNet.

"Independent tests carried out between two major global tyre and truck manufacturers found that use of the Hunter commercial vehicle alignment system could save fleets as much as 2.5% just by correcting their alignment," says Hickey.
