DAF announces trials of CF Electric rigid

DAF Trucks has announced that the first trials of CF Electric 6x2 rigids will begin with two waste management operators by the end of this year.

The vehicles are equipped as refuse collection trucks and will be field tested by HVC and ROVA, two Dutch operators.

Further trials will begin early next year, also in the Netherlands, with a CF electric 6x2 RCV fitted with a loader crane. All of the vehicles are equipped with a VDL E-Power driveline and the fully electric on-board equipment is supplied by VDL Translift.

The driveline provides 210kW of power and a torque of 2,000Nm – the same as the CF Electric tractor. The driveline is powered by a battery pack delivering up to 170kWh. The truck is ideal for refuse collection operations, says DAF, as these vehicles usually return to the depot every few hours – at that point, the vehicle’s battery can be recharged up to 80% capacity in 30 minutes.

The gvw for the CF Electric 6x2 is 28 tonnes.
