Glastonbury-based Avalon Coaches has taken delivery of two Irizar i6 integrals, saying the vehicles’ DAF engines clinched the deal after “outstanding performance” from its first DAF-engined coach.
According to Clayton Roper, Avalon’s general manager, the DAF engine has outperformed all others on fuel economy and the vehicle “never misses a beat”.
The latest two additions to the 27-strong fleet are 53-seater Irizar i6 integrals, powered by DAF’s MX11 271 369bhp engine, driving through a ZF Ecolife Coach six-speed automated transmission.
Interior features include three-point seat belts, drinks machines, seat tables, magazine nets and footrests. Each coach also has a driver’s bunk and wood-effect floor.
Roper says he will continue the switch to DAF power and has already ordered another Irizar for delivery in October.
