The prototype FTCC is aimed at the distribution truck market and is based on a 12-tonne LF but with “significantly improved” payload potential.
DAF says the secret is a combination of a patented new design and increased use of lightweight materials and components – together achieving a full 500kg weight saving on the 12 tonne chassis.
The FTCC’s chassis and body were built by Leyland Trucks working with Sapa Profiles UK and DAF on the aluminium extrusions, and CSA Group, which assisted with validation, using vehicle and rig-based testing.
As for DAF’s Silent truck, currently available under its ‘Transport Efficiency’ programme, it applies to DAF CF and XF vehicles powered by the Euro-6 Paccar MX-11 engine.
The new ‘Silent’ truck, which was designed for urban night-time deliveries, was launched earlier this year at the CV Show,
In operation, Silent Mode is engaged via a dash-mounted button, which triggers the engine software to reduce noise levels to less than 72 dB(A).
