Efficiency and cost saving to major at IRTE 2013 conference

Carlsberg has joined the list of major transport operators talking about improving efficiency and cutting costs in transport operations at this year's IRTE Conference.
The conference – entitled 'Cost-effective and efficient fleet management and operations' – is being staged on 11 September at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon. Andrew Davis, national fleet engineer with Carlsberg, will be talking about the organisation's approach to specifying and purchasing vehicles that are fit for purpose and offer best total cost of vehicle ownership. Other big names on the agenda include Fowler Welch, KBC Logistics, Lafarge, Sainsbury's and Wincanton – all sharing the secrets of their success. Key topics include the real engineering and cost implications of Euro 6 (chaired by Andrew Nicol of world-renowned Ricardo) and experience to date with a wide range of technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and improving efficiency. Others range from experience to date with longer semi-trailers and hybrid trucks, to resolving issues of compliance – with an expert panel that includes senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell and VOSA chief exec Alastair Peoples – and a legal update on the role of transport manager. Additionally, delegates will get a first-hand update on the new Centre for Sustainable Road Freight, from director David Cebon, professor of mechanical engineering at Cambridge University and director of the new centre, who will reveal strategies that cut transport costs and emissions, while also improving efficiency. "The only way to achieve very deep reductions in CO2 emissions from the road freight sector is to combine highly-focused vehicle engineering with systematic improvements to freight distribution systems," insists Professor Cebon. Mobil Delvac 1 is supporting the event and sponsors include Airtab, G-Volution, TRW, Pirelli, CVL and Bullwell Trailer Solutions and Truckfile.
