The 2017 IRTE Fleet Engineer of the Year awards are open for entries.

Organised by the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) and MA Business, publisher of Transport Engineer magazine, the awards aim to recognise technicians who work tirelessly to improve vehicle reliability and safety.

The awards are free to enter and are split into two categories: HGV and Bus & Coach.

Ian Chisholm, chief executive of SOE, IRTE’s parent organisation, says: “Efficient fleet operation is one of the cornerstones of the road transport industry, and those working to improve on the outstanding progress already made in this area fully deserve to be recognised for those efforts.”

Launched in 2016, the awards reward engineers who can demonstrate excellent engineering standards, and the ability to improve operational performance, compliance and safety.

Last year’s winners (pictured) were Allan Eyre, formerly of Flogas, and Eddie Cross of London Borough of Redbridge, who received their awards from senior traffic commissioner Beverley Bell.

The deadline for 2017 entries is 30 June. Winners will be announced at the IRTE pre-conference networking dinner on 27 September at Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth.
