The new gas truck will join the UK's first DAF Euro 6 dual-fuel tractor unit – an XF Euro 6, 12.9 litre, 460bhp with small midlift – also on Gasrec's stand.
Scania's gas-powered tractor unit, which recently entered service with Argos and has already been trialled by several retail and logistics companies, is plated at 40 tonnes gtw, and equipped with Scania's OC09 102, nine-litre Euro 6 engine.
Delivering 340bhp at 1,900 rpm and 1,600Nm of torque between 1,100 and 1,400 rpm, this engine is designed to operate solely on gas (compressed or liquefied) and offers a high thermal efficiency of 40%.
Argos will initially be running five of these gas-powered trucks on daily return to base operations from its Magna Park, West Midlands hub.
With an expected range of 450km, the vehicles will be filling up with natural gas at a new open-access refuelling station being opened by Gasrec later this year, close to Magna Park, at Lutterworth.
Gasrec is Europe's largest supplier of LNG (liquefied natural gas) in Europe, fuelling over 60% of gas powered HGVs on UK roads from 10 strategically located filling stations.
