Ford goes for gold with 50th anniversary of Transit production

A convoy of gold Transits left the Commercial Vehicle Show last week (14-16 April) to begin a tour of the UK to mark the manufacturer’s 50th anniversary later this year.

The vehicles – Transit Courier, Connect, Custom and a 2-tonne Transit – will visit several events and dealerships, before the tour ends on the weekend of 8-9 August at a Transit Owners' Club event.

Almost eight million Transits have been built since the first one rolled off the production line in Langley, England, on 9 August 1965.

"With 50 years of van sales leadership in the UK under its belt, the new four-van Transit range is looking forward to its next half century," says Mark Ovenden, chairman and managing director, Ford of Britain.
