Fuso Canter stacks up for B&N Brickwork

Building contractor B&N Brickwork has taken delivery of a new Mercedes-Benz Fuso Canter, after 13 years’ reliable service from its predecessor.

Supplied by dealer Rygor, the 3.5-tonner has a 3-litre, four-cylinder engine, delivering 150bhp with 370Nm available over a broad engine speed range.

In Eco Mode, the Canter’s Duonic automated dual clutch transmission contributes to lower fuel consumption, as does the standard Idle Start/Stop (ISS) function.

Surrey-based B&N’s vehicle has a tipping body by Wessex Vehicle Services, of Salisbury, and the bodybuilder has also fitted a large, lockable tool box immediately behind the cab.

“I’d had my previous Canter since 2002,” says B&N’s proprietor John Benson (pictured). “It was a lovely little truck and certainly did me proud, covering just under 100,000 miles and never needing a new clutch.

“In fact, the only problem I ever had was the result of a fault on the battery terminals, which was easily and inexpensively resolved.”

He also praises the Canter’s manoeuvrability, adding: “As well as being very agile, the Canter also has a fantastic driving position. You sit right over the front wheels – and that means visibility is excellent.”

B&N’s vehicle was supplied on a hire purchase deal, through Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.

“The deal was superb,” says Benson. “I spoke to my bank and they couldn’t get anywhere near it.”
