GF Gordon sees clear benefits with Mercedes-Benz Econic

Essex-based aggregates and muckaway operator GF Gordon (Plant Hire) has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz truck – an Econic tipper, citing the “absolutely brilliant” vision from the cab.

Supplied by Sparshatts of Kent, the FORS-accredited operator’s new addition is a 32-tonne Econic 3235L ENA model and is equipped with an array of cameras and proximity scanners.

The fully air-suspended vehicle is powered by a 7.7-litre six-cylinder diesel engine which transmits its 349bhp output via a six-speed Allison gearbox.

The truck has a Charlton steel tipping body and is in operation on a contract at Bank underground station, in central London, from where GF Gordon removes five loads per day midweek and eight at weekends.

Director Arran Gordon has driven the truck into London and is in no doubt as to its potential to save lives. “The view from the cab is absolutely brilliant, so much better than that of a conventional construction eight-wheeler,” he says.

“If I could pick a vehicle to take into the city every day, it would definitely be the Econic.”

The vehicle is being inspected and maintained at the dealer’s Dartford workshop.
