Glass supplier sees Euro VI benefits with latest Ryder order

Glass supplier Ultra Tough has upgraded its fleet with ten Euro VI DAF trucks, supplied on contract hire from Ryder.

The Hertfordshire-based firm has used Ryder for 17 years; this latest order is for five 7.5-tonne DAF LF150 and five 18-tonne DAF LF220 curtainsiders, all with day cabs.

Ultra Tough has four furnaces in Welham Green, from where it delivers glass in stillages to glazing specialists, conservatory and greenhouse suppliers, and construction contractors.

When delivering the product, Ultra Tough also takes away empty stillages from its customers. As well as carrying stillages, the new trucks have bespoke bodies with internal frames to carry larger panes of glass.

Ultra Tough’s vehicles clock up 100,000 miles each year, travelling across the UK.

Kevin Barlow, Ultra Tough’s director, says: “Not only was it time for some replacement vehicles, but also our volumes are growing, so additional vehicles are required. It’s great that we’re moving to the most environmentally friendly trucks available.”
