Goldstar ‘unbeatable’ praise for Harsh hookloader

Scrap metal business Goldstar Metal Traders has taken delivery of a high-spec Harsh 6x4 hookloader, describing the Harsh units as “unbeatable” for versatility and productivity.

The latest Harsh-equipped vehicle – Goldstar’s second – is based on a Scania XT 6x4 with sleeper cab and 494bhp engine.

Configured to operate on and off-road as a high performance six-axle drawbar combination at the maximum 44 tonnes gross weight, Goldstar opted for the Harsh HH26 hookloader system with its lifting capacity of 26 tonnes.

Andy Willy, Goldstar’s transport manager, says: “The Harsh HH26 offers a lift capacity three tonnes higher than other hookloader models, thereby giving us an extra margin of performance, reliability and safety. We expect this extra strength and inherent durability will pay us real dividends in the long term.

“While the truck has on-board weighing equipment to ensure that it always stays fully road legal, it can also be used pretty much as a heavy duty dump truck in off-road applications such as demolition, site and dock work.”

The vehicle is specified with Harsh’s Variwidth adjustable sheeting system, with its fast off-load switch to increase engine revs for unloading.

The new hookloader joins another Harsh product on the fleet – a 6x2 drawbar with lifting rear axle fitted with Harsh skiploader bodywork. When working with its trailer, this truck can carry up to six skips in one go.

Ben Ward (pictured), Goldstar’s managing director, says: “All our latest trucks can operate either by themselves or with a trailer, at any weight up to 44 tonnes.

“Whether for hooks or skips, our Harsh units give us an unbeatable combination of versatility and productivity – we are quite clear that this is the best way forward in our truck operations.”
