Goodyear has launched its new Fuelmax truck tyre range, which includes the first steer tyre (385/55R22.5) classified A-grade for fuel economy under EU tyre labelling – potentially saving a 50-strong truck fleet £210,000 per year, according to the firm.
Among the three product families – Fuelmax S steer tyres, D drive tyres and T trailer tyres – both the steer and trailer tyre ranges now offer tyres that have qualified for A-grades in fuel efficiency.
Goodyear's estimate of £210,000 saving per year for a 50-strong fleet that replaces D-grade tyres with the latest A-grade, is based on a 40-tonne 4x2 tractor unit and tri-axle trailer.
The combination would have to cover an annual mileage of 100,000km. This could result in an annual fuel saving of £4,000 and 8,975kg of carbon, per truck.
Further benefits, says Goodyear, include better winter performance and longer life.
