Grundon goes greener with 21-strong DAF order

Waste management and recycling business Grundon has taken delivery of a Euro 6 DAF CF 460 FTG Space Cab – one of a 21-strong order for new DAF trucks, due for delivery throughout the summer.

The DAF CF 460 will be used on Grundon's contract with Carbon8 – a company that treats incinerator residues, including those from the joint Grundon/Viridor Lakeside energy from waste (EfW) facility, near Slough.

Supplied by dealer Channel Commercials, other vehicles on order include four DAF CF 290 FAN rear-steer and two CF 290 FAG mid-steer trade waste vehicles (all with optional Allison gearboxes), as well as skiploaders, hookloaders, and container handling vehicles.

Joining them will be 7.5-, 16- and 18-tonne DAF LF vehicles, as well as CF 26-tonners and CF eight-wheelers.

The new DAF fleet comes with 'Carbon Neutral' certification, as part of Grundon's affiliation with The Carbon Neutral Company: all of Grundon's vehicle emissions are offset by a three-year re-forestation programme in Uganda.

According to Stephen Townsend, Grundon's group fleet engineer: "What currently separates DAF from other manufacturers, in my view, is the way a product issue is dealt with in the field or by the side of the road.

"DAF acts to put the vehicle back to work as soon as possible without a quibble; once back up and running the problem, whatever it may be, is discussed and sorted."
