GT Trax lifts capability with 26-tonne Iveco Stralis Hi-Road

Outdoor flooring supplier GT Trax has taken delivery of its first Iveco heavy truck, a 26-tonne 6x2 Stralis rigid with custom bodywork and rear-mounted crane for laying temporary road surfaces.

Supplied by Guest Truck & Van, the Cambridgeshire-based operator’s Stralis Hi-Road is powered by a Cursor 11 engine – with Iveco’s HI-SCR technology – capable of producing up to 460bhp at 1,900 rpm, plus 2,150 Nm of torque at 925 rpm, and drives through a ZF EuroTronic automatic transmission.

GT Trax introduced a new heavy roadway system to its range for use in the construction and outdoor events sectors, and needed a more powerful truck to transport and install it.

Graham Crisp, GT Trax financial director, says: “We had conversations with several truck dealers and manufacturers before placing the order. Iveco came out as the clear winner based on the suitability of the Stralis, our confidence in Iveco’s HI-SCR engine technology and the fantastic support we received from the dealer.

“It’s without doubt the most specialist vehicle we’ve ever ordered.”

The truck is specified with a rear-steering axle and full air-suspension to increase manoeuvrability on sites with restricted access. It also has alloy wheels, extended range fuel and AdBlue tanks, alloy air reservoirs, xenon headlights and air-suspended driver and passenger seats.

The cab also includes Iveconnect – an integrated satnav, infotainment, fleet management and telematics system – which allows GT Trax to communicate with its drivers, and have accurate location information. The system also includes a driving style evaluation tool, which acts as an on-board driving instructor and provides suggestions for improving fuel consumption.

The Hi-Road’s flatbed body is by TH White; it has a rear-mounted Palfinger crane, plus front stabilisers.

GT Trax has also taken delivery of a matching, purpose-built Adcliffe tri-axle drawbar trailer, allowing the vehicle to operate at a maximum gtw of up to 44 tonnes.
