Haulier to roll out tyre pressure monitoring after trial pays for itself

Devereux Transport is to roll out Continental's tyre pressure monitoring system across its fleet, after a trial installation detected pressure loss and prevented a roadside repair.
Devereux fitted the ContiPressureCheck system to a mid-lift axle Volvo FH12 tractor and tri-axle Montracon trailer – and the result, says the haulier, means the system paid for itself immediately. "The in-cab monitor bleeped straight away to alert the driver that there was a loss in pressure in one of his tyres," says Jimmy Savage, Devereux's workshop manager. "The puncture could be repaired and that saved the cost of a new tyre, which meant that the system paid for itself in the first instance that it detected a problem." Teesside-based Devereux fitted the trial system itself and says it was very simple to do. ContiPressureCheck incorporates a measurement device, fitted inside each tyre. It is housed in a robust container and glued to the inner surface of the tread. Integrated sensors monitor tyre pressure and temperature, and deliver data wirelessly via a control unit to a display in the cab. The company is now planning to introduce the system across its fleet of 90 trucks and 200 trailers.
