Plant hire firm Hewden has scooped a Freight Transport Association Roadworthiness Award, in recognition of its vehicle and trailer maintenance standards.
Hewden's fleet has 30 vehicle types, including excavators, backhoes, rollers, telehandlers, dumpers and access platforms. It was the company's Bangor depot, in particular, that was recognised for its high standards.
The depot was singled out for its strong performance in controlling driver-related defects, as well as having the lowest defect figures for vehicles, including trailers, in Hewden's nationwide fleet.
The FTA's Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) introduced the award scheme to recognise operators with a safe, legal and compliant commercial vehicle fleet.
The VIS Gateway information service enables users to view inspection results and benchmark performance by manufacturer, vehicle type, model, driver and industry sector.
Kevin Buckler, Hewden's transport compliance manager, says: "It is rewarding to know that our commitment to operating a safe and compliant fleet of HGVs, by using FTA''s Vehicle Inspection Service benchmarking reports, has been recognised."
