Hexagon Leasing locks in new partnership with CogLock to help improve vehicle safety

Hexagon Leasing has partnered with an innovative new wheel security solution called CogLock and is offering it as an option to all customers choosing new lease 18t+ vehicles from next month (June).

Specifically designed to prevent wheel detachment, CogLock provides a visual indicator, secure locking mechanism, and streamlines maintenance.

Andy Towns, operations director at Hexagon Leasing said: “Having been in the truck industry for many years, I have had the unfortunate experience of witnessing the consequences of individuals neglecting to monitor and check their vehicles’ wheel nuts correctly.

“In light of this, we at Hexagon are pleased to offer an additional safety option to our customers. The CogLock system provides operators with a visible indicator to identify any loose wheel nuts, while simultaneously offering a locking mechanism to prevent wheel loosening and subsequent vehicle abandonment during travel. This effectively reduces the risk of accidents.”

Chris Coghill, founder and director of CogLock said: “I am extremely proud and excited for this partnership, and it is a huge compliment that Hexagon have chosen to partner with us.

“Hexagon’s proactive approach towards offering safer and more reliable vehicles to their customers shows their dedication towards compliance, safety, and protecting their customers and the general public.”

A wheel that comes loose from an HGV on a motorway at 56mph can reach speeds of up to 90mph before potentially colliding with another vehicle. In 2006, the Transport Research Laboratory estimated the typical annual frequency of wheel fixing problems in the UK to be between 150 and 400 wheel detachments, with between 10 and 27 resulting in injury accidents, and between three and seven fatal accidents.

CogLock is an optional add-on for all manufacturers of 18t and above lease vehicles offered by Hexagon Leasing and will be fitted at PDI.

Chris added: “We are working closely with Hexagon’s supplying dealers to offer the fitment of CogLocks during PDI to ensure customers’ vehicles are delivered in with our products already fitted by fully trained technicians.”

The sales team at Hexagon have also undergone full training and have samples of CogLocks to demonstrate to customers. Hexagon also has the ability to retrofit vehicles already in service if required, and there is potential for CogLocks to be offered on smaller vehicles at a later date as part of this partnership.
