Home delivery network collects fuel savings with online scheduling

Telematics
Parcel delivery business Yodel is trialling web-based scheduling technology from Route Monkey for its self-employer couriers, most of whom work from home.
Trials to date have revealed average savings for the couriers of 19% in fuel use and 6% time. Yodel's couriers access the system via a web portal, which then schedules their deliveries with the lowest cumulative mileage. The route schedule can also be printed. "In order to build on this initial success, our next step is to offer a fully integrated app," says Colin Ferguson, Route Monkey's CEO. "This means each courier can download his or her personal schedule straight to their smartphones." The system can also be integrated with third party telematics, tracking and fleet management software.
