Howdens upgrades trailer fleet with 400 bespoke units from Ryder

Kitchen supplier Howdens has taken delivery of 400 custom-built trailers on contract hire from Ryder, as part of a major fleet upgrade programme.

The 13.6m-long, tri-axle curtainsiders were designed to Howdens' specification, with SDC chassis and bodywork by Lawrence David featuring pillarless, 'clearspan' ENXL-certified loading support safety curtains.

"Our previous trailer fleet was beginning to be ready for replacement so, in addition to upgrading to new high-specification trailers, we took the opportunity to redesign the trailer livery to give the vehicles more visual impact and improved brand awareness," says Charlie Nissen, Howdens' national transport manager.

"In addition, we are also trialling trailer tracking hardware to maximise trailer usage."

The deal follows Ryder's delivery earlier this year to Howdens of 100 DAF CF tractors.
