This highly-anticipated event continues to be the premier platform for showcasing the exceptional talents of bus and coach engineers and technicians across the industry.

Open to operators of all sizes  from across the UK, this year’s competition will be a distinctive gathering of cutting-edge technology, skilled engineers, technicians, apprentices, and industry-leading suppliers, highlighting the sector's strength and commitment to sustainability.

A celebration of skill and expertise

This year’s Skills Challenge aims to discover and elevate the next generation of talented bus and coach technicians. From apprentices to seasoned professionals, participants will take on challenging opportunities that test their theoretical and practical expertise in electrical, mechanical, and bodywork skills.

The competition provides a unique arena for learning, growth, and recognition, empowering engineers to push their limits and rise to the challenge.

The intense Skills Challenge Testing Week, which takes place from 2-6 June 2025 at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol is followed by a celebration of winners and runners-up at the Skills Challenge Awards in July.

Deadline to register teams is 30 April 2025.

Industry-wide appeal

This year’s challenge aims to engage both individual engineers and bus and coach leaders. For engineers, it offers an exceptional opportunity to:

• Showcase their skills on a national platform
• Connect with industry peers and leaders
• Earn recognition for their expertise
• Advance their professional development

For bus and coach leaders, the benefits are equally compelling:

• Benchmark their team's skills against industry standards
• Identify areas for training and improvement

• Demonstrate commitment to excellence in maintenance and safety

The IRTE is pleased to report that interest in this year's challenge is already high, with  both returning competitors and newcomers eager to participate. This enthusiasm underscores the event's reputation as a valuable and respected industry fixture.
