irtec refreshes Advanced Technician licence

Irtec
irtec, the industry-recognised benchmark for technician competence, has been revitalised and, as described during a presentation by the IRTE at Coach & Bus Live, now includes a redeveloped Advanced Technician level.
According to IRTE past president Chris Grime, this refreshed qualification complements the recently updated Service Maintenance Technician level, as well as the new 'Inspection Technician' level, both launched earlier this year. "Having collaborated with representatives from vehicle manufacturers, trade associations, and goods and passenger transport operators, all three irtec levels are now wholly reflective of today's industry needs," comments Grimes. "The irtec Advanced Technician licence is available in both large commercial vehicle and bus and coach routes, and consists of five, one-hour assessments, plus an underpinning knowledge test," he explains. Technicians aiming for the Advanced Technician licence need to have solid working knowledge of vehicle systems, including ABS and vehicle electrical systems. The irtec assessment itself requires vehicle technicians to prove their ability to diagnose vehicle faults logically, while also demonstrating competence with diagnostic equipment.
