Kitchen equipment supplier says Sprinters cater for fleet reliability

Keith Elkington Transport has added five of the latest Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis cabs to its 20-strong van fleet.

The Milton Keynes-based operator, which provides specialist transport for commercial catering equipment suppliers, is a longstanding Mercedes-Benz customer. It rates the Sprinter for reliability, and says competing marques “are just not built to the same standard”.

Supplied by the Newmarket branch of dealer Orwell Truck & Van, three of the new additions are 314 CDI models with 3.5 tonne gross weights, while the remaining 514 CDIs are rated at 5.0 tonnes.

All are powered by 141bhp four-cylinder, rear-wheel-drive engines and are specified with optional 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmissions. Their high-volume GRP box bodies are by Alloy Bodies, of Manchester, and have internal heights of 3.5m. They also have 1,000kg Bär Cargolift cantilever tail-lifts.

Company founder Keith Elkington says: “We’ve been running Mercedes-Benz vans since the late 1980s and they’ve always proved to be tough, robust, and well up to the rigours of the job, no matter who was behind the wheel.”

He adds: “The new Sprinters are as solid as ever, but they also bring a new level of comfort and driver-friendly design into the mix, especially with the automatic gearboxes we specified.”

The vehicles are expected to be in service for three years, with each averaging more than 150,000 miles.

They are backed by three-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, and come with MobiloVan cover with free emergency roadside assistance.
