Knorr-Bremse and Kiepe team up to showcase electric bus solutions

Knorr-Bremse is partnering with Kiepe Electric to demonstrate a range of products and services for electric bus fleets at the Busworld Europe event (18-23 October; Brussels).

Among the solutions on show is In Motion Charging 500 (IMC), from Kiepe Electric, which enables buses to charge their batteries from overhead lines while in motion. On sections of route without overhead lines, the vehicles switch to battery power.

Visitors can also see Kiepe’s Smart Fleet Management (SFM) product, a self-learning artificial intelligence system to schedule service operations for electric bus fleets.

SFM gathers data on consumption, route and performance, and enables automatic and predictive control of vehicles. The system covers all types of charging concepts, including IMC (click the link below to see a video of SFM in action).

Knorr-Bremse Commercial Vehicle Systems, meanwhile, is showcasing its portfolio of braking and safety technologies, focusing on new electric drive products including the screw-type compressor with intelligent Air Processing Unit (iAPU).

The screw-type compressor is said to be ideal for vehicles with high demand for compressed air (such as city buses), where high output must go hand in hand with low noise and vibration levels. The iAPU can control the electric motor in the screw-type compressor and energy-saving features such as smart regeneration.

In addition, Knorr-Bremse is now offering its Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as a separate system for manual activation. The EPB helps prevent accidents by automatically applying the brakes under certain conditions, such as when the driver leaves the vehicle without selecting parking mode.
