Many fleets are missing a trick by allowing unsightly locking bars on trailers to distort their branding.
That's the claim from Schmitz Cargobull, which is urging fleets to sharpen their image and consider how other road users view their vehicles from behind.
Dry freight trailers often have cumbersome locking gear on the rear doors, explains Paul Avery, Shmitz Cargobull's managing director.
"While these doors might work absolutely fine on a practical level, at a time when everyone is 'brand savvy', the results can lead to a lacklustre livery, which won't benefit a business," he says.
Locking gear on the rear doors can obscure phone numbers and website addresses, or partially cover a logo or brand name, says Avery.
Schmitz Cargobull's advice is to specify flush doors – often an extra but supplied as standard on all Schmitz curtainsiders and its FP25 dry freight box van trailer.
