Low Carbon Champions awards – shortlist unveiled

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) has unveiled the shortlist for the 2016 Low Carbon Champions awards.

Now in their sixth year, the awards celebrate achievements in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels, and reducing road transport emissions.

Low carbon car/van manufacturer nominees are BMW, Iveco, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Tesla and Toyota.

Alexander Dennis, BYD Europe and Scania are up for the heavy duty vehicle manufacturer prize.

The trophy for vehicle operator of the year will go to either Alphabet, Bibby Distribution, First Bus or John Lewis Partnership.

Other categories include fuel initiative of the year and innovation by an SME.

The awards will be presented in Milton Keynes on the evening of Wednesday 14 September, the first of two days of Cenex’s LCV2016 event.

Andy Eastlake, LowCVP managing director, says: “It’s been another year of significant progress in decarbonising UK road transport from the point of view of both technology and uptake. In many areas of transport, technology has been developing at an extraordinary pace, and vehicle users are having to work hard just to keep up.

“The LowCVP is at the centre of this exciting industry and we look forward to celebrating the UK’s continued leadership in this vital area. I commend all those organisations that have made this year’s Champions Awards shortlist and look forward to a great night on 14 September, when we’ll announce the winners.”
