‘Luxury meets efficiency’ with £1.3m bus order

Bus & Coach
Reading Buses has placed a £1.3 million order with Wrightbus for six StreetDeck double-deckers – with which “luxury will meet efficiency”, according to the operator.

The buses will be fitted with Euro 6 engines and Wrightbus’ latest MicroHybrid fuel-efficient technologies – and will be the first vehicles of this type to be fitted with automatic engine start-stop.

The deal follows successful trials last summer, when the operator tried several Wrightbus models, including a New Routemaster.

Reading Buses is also specifying the Lazzerini Ethos seat which uses approaches from the aviation industry to produce a 30% weight saving. Other interior features will include a glass staircase and roof panels, social seating and digital connectivity.

The buses will meet the government’s Low Carbon Bus criteria – usually the preserve of lighter weight single-deckers.

Martijn Gilbert, CEO of Reading Buses, says: “Using the latest innovations in many design and engineering features, and best practice from across the transport industry, we will be delivering a bus that will not only offer the highest standards of customer comfort and ambiance, but also one that has been optimised to achieve class-leading fuel economy and environmental credentials – luxury will meet efficiency.”

The buses will enter service in September.
