MAN Lion’s City GL CNG picks up Bus of the Year award

MAN Lion's City GL CNG has been voted Bus of the Year 2015, with judges praising its clean, powerful engine, economic performance and high passenger capacity.
The award will be presented next month at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Fair, in Hanover (25 September to 2 October 2014). The 18.75m-long, articulated vehicle incorporates a Euro 6 CNG (compressed natural gas) engine, which reduces fuel costs and, says MAN, saves 15% on lifecycle costs over 10 years, compared with a diesel model from the same range. The bus is designed for use on inner city routes and hence accommodates high passenger volumes – it can carry up to 142 people. It has five double-width doors – the only five-door bus on the market – which MAN says helps to optimise passenger flow while also cutting waiting time at bus stops. Three fold-out chairs are controlled by the driver, enabling more standing room to be offered when passenger numbers are nearing capacity. Ticket validation machines can scan electronic tickets purchased via smartphones and free Wi-Fi is available on board. Other notable features inside the bus include glass sunroofs and energy-efficient LED lighting.
