McGill’s signs £4.8m deal with ADL for low-emission buses

Scottish bus operator McGill’s has signed a £4.8m deal with Alexander Dennis (ADL) for 26 single-deck vehicles built to Low Emission Bus standards.

The order comprises 11 10.4m-long Enviro400 buses and 15 of the longer 11.5m model.

All 26 will have Euro VI engines and will feature ADL’s SmartPack diesel technology, accrediting them as Low Emission Buses as defined by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership.

ADL says that, as well as meeting the Euro VI emissions standard, the vehicles’ actual emissions will be significantly lower thanks to engine stop-start technology and the smart management of alternator and compressor, which are programmed to recharge from surplus energy when the engine is coasting.

McGill’s will take delivery of the order by the end of March 2019 and they will go into service on the operator’s Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and Glasgow networks. The buses will be fully compliant with Glasgow’s upcoming low emission zone.

Ralph Roberts, managing director of McGill’s, said: “When it came to this year’s bus investment, the low operating cost and high reliability of the ADL product made it an easy decision to choose the Enviro 200 product.

“Our Inverclyde and Renfrewshire routes will benefit from this £4.8m of investment and not only give our current customers an enhanced travel experience but hopefully tempt non-bus users to give the bus a try.”
