Mercedes-Benz dealer Northside Truck & Van has launched an apprentice ‘job-swap’ scheme, designed to give its apprentices an inside view on customer operations, and vice versa.
Northside’s Tom Christie was first on the scheme: he exchanged roles with Will Massey, transport supervisor at retailer Heron Foods.
Christie, a third-year Mercedes-Benz technical apprentice at the dealer’s Hull branch, spent time in Heron’s traffic office as well as out on deliveries.
“It was a very enjoyable and interesting experience,” says Christie (pictured, right, with Massey). “If I came away with one overriding impression, it was of how critical it is to Heron Foods that its vehicles are available for work when they’re needed.”
The operator runs a 45-strong fleet of trucks, many of which are Mercedes models, supplied and serviced by Northside.
