Michelin Solutions is cream of the crop for Openfield

Farming transport co-operative Openfield has switched to Michelin Solutions for tyre management, signing a three-year, pence-per-kilometre Effitires deal for its 36-strong truck fleet and 46 bulk tipper trailers.

Michelin is inspecting all tyres on a monthly basis and making service recommendations to ensure maximum longevity from each casing.

“We’re a small fleet with a big challenge – transporting crops from members’ farms all around the UK,” says Keith Hughes, Openfield’s head of fleet. “Uptime is key, especially during the busy harvest season, and that’s what sold us on Michelin Solutions’ Effitires package.”

The deal includes UK-wide breakdown cover and vehicles are being fitted with tyres from Michelin’s X Multi range.

“Our trucks can be on farm tracks one moment, and motorways the next. We need tyres that can handle anything, and Michelin fits the bill perfectly,” says Hughes.

Michelin Solutions will manage tyre fitment and servicing via a network of local independent tyre dealers, regional chains, and nationwide supplier ATS Euromaster, to ensure Openfield has access to support, even in rural areas.

Tyres will also be regrooved to maximise lifespan and minimise environmental impact.
