The commercial vehicle safety specialists installed rear, forward and side-scan cameras to two new road sweepers to offer drivers a clear view of the vehicle’s blind spot. The four cameras are connected to an in-cab monitor and record for up to 30 days, allowing the council to use the footage to deal with any incidents.
The sweepers were installed on DAF LF chassis that Trevor Docherty, travel and fleet services manager at Midlothian Council said that it had found to be the best chassis for the duty.
He adds: “Having Sentinel’s four-way camera systems on our new road sweepers not only offers the ultimate protection for our drivers but allows us to monitor their routes and use the captured footage to settle any claims that may occur with local residents. This is the second time we have used Sentinel, as we also have their cameras on our food waste collection vehicles. Installing their cameras has benefited our drivers in many ways, including warning them of any approaching cyclists and pedestrians.”
Sentinel’s 360-degree surround view camera system offers an enhanced view of the outside of the council’s vehicles. It can be combined with Sentinel’s 4 or 8-channel DVRs, so that drivers can record up to 30 days of footage. Inside the vehicle, a seven inch in-cab monitor is installed with high image clarity so that objects around the vehicle are always visible to the drivers. The cameras not only reduce the risk of damage to the vehicle, but also lower the risks of injury to personnel.
