Miles of benefits for Myers Transport with Mercedes trucks

Tractor Units
Haulier Myers Transport has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz trucks in 40 years – and says the vehicles are setting "a new standard" for fuel economy.
The first to join the fleet of 52 top-weight tractors was an Actros 2545 BigSpace tractor, ordered after a successful six-month trial. Supplied by dealer Rossetts Commercials, the vehicle is already outperforming others on the fleet, according to Myers' managing director Tony Myers. "At 9.14 mpg, it's set a new standard for economy," he says. The haulier has since ordered two more, both with the same 449bhp straight-six engine, but this time with Mercedes' GigaSpace cabs. One has already gone into operation, with the second due to arrive in January 2015. The two latest Actros trucks were both specified with PPC (predictive powertrain control), which uses 3D GPS mapping to read 3km of topography ahead, and then controls the transmission as well as speed and braking to maximise fuel efficiency. Myers runs its trucks for three years, with each covering 450,000km in that time. Its new Actros trucks are being supplied with two-year Mercedes-Benz R&M contracts. Rossetts' mobile technicians will undertake inspections and servicing at the operator's premises.
