Nagel Langdons confirms 205-strong order with Scania

Bridgwater-based Nagel Langdons has picked Scania as its preferred supplier for 2019/20 and placed an order for 205 trucks, a mix of rigids and tractors, citing product quality and strong aftersales support.

The new vehicles will be based around Nagel Langdon’s eight UK depots and will run on a variety of temperature-controlled distribution and trunking operations.

Of the order, 67 trucks will be delivered in 2019 with the remainder following next year. Of this year’s delivery, 56 are tractor units, comprising a mix of G 450 6x2/2s with normal height roofs and R 450 6x2/2 Highlines. All have mid-lifting axles and will be plated at 44 tonnes gtw.

The 11 rigids are 26 tonnes gvw P 280 6x2s with sleeper cabs. They feature Scania’s lightweight 7-litre engine, which delivers 276bhp at 1,900rpm and 1,200Nm torque between 1,050 and 1,600rpm.

All vehicles in the order will be supplied with two-year R&M contracts and are expected to be in operation for between four and five years.

“Scania has been part of the Nagel Langdons fleet for many years and our decision to specify them as our primary make for 2019/20 is based on product quality, reliability and the consistently high levels of aftersales support we receive from the Scania network,” says Tyrone Lanaway, engineering manager for Nagel Langdons.

“In addition to meeting our operational repair, maintenance and servicing requirements, Scania don’t shy away from older vehicles, which is something we particularly appreciate. Also, our depots report their Scanias consistently run for the full six weeks between inspections without issue – which is exactly what an intensive operations such as ours demands.”

For the future, Nagel Langdons is evaluating the Scania 18-tonnes P-series rigid with a 217bhp, 7-litre engine, along with the low entry Scania L-series. “I was out in the L-series recently, and the high levels of visibility it affords means it’s now a top contender for urban operations,” says Lanaway.
