Nationwide Platforms goes with Microlise for fleet telematics

Telematics Tracking
Powered access rental business Nationwide Platforms has extended its contract with telematics specialist Microlise for another five years, deploying the system across its fleet of 105 truck-mounted platforms.

The decision follows a deployment last year on Nationwide Platforms' HGV delivery fleet, which has now seen 112 vehicles fitted with Microlise technology.

That, says the company, has led to a 9% reduction in fuel consumption during the six months since implementation, along with improvements in terms of safety – with speeding, for example, down and vehicle uptime increased.

Peter Douglas, UK operations director at Nationwide Platforms, says that going with Microlise telematics has been all about understanding driver performance in a bid to reduce fuel usage, while also improving safety.

"The Microlise solution has already delivered a huge return on investment," states Douglas.

"We have seen significant savings in operational costs and an increase in safety and vehicle availability," he continues.

"The solution we will deploy on the operated truck mounted platforms fleet will deliver similar savings, but will also increase our service levels by giving us visibility of fleet location – making us more agile and responsive to customer demand for our machines."

With the operated truck-mounted platforms fleet being exempt from tachograph monitoring and reporting, Nationwide Platforms can also now monitor drivers' hours to ensure compliance with company policies.

The system will provide management with detailed reporting on vehicle and driver activity.
