New mobile app for bus operators promises streamlined duty management

Transport technology provider Trapeze Group has launched a new online portal to help bus operators to communicate more efficiently with drivers.

Called OnBoard, the app-based portal is an extension of Duty Allocation System (DAS), Trapeze’s existing system for bus operators which streamlines driver duty management.

With DAS OnBoard, drivers can now communicate with their traffic office – in real time, from any location – via one portal for all interactions such as messaging, assigned work and late running alerts.

OnBoard also enables drivers to sign on remotely for work, meaning that operators can use roadside relief points to update schedules and driver shifts. Drivers can confirm that they are en route to the relief point, and the system uses mobile device location functionality to validate that they are close to the assigned takeover point.

DAS OnBoard enables bus operators “to streamline the entire duty management process”, says Janice McPherson, Trapeze business unit director.

She adds: “The ability to proactively address failed reliefs is key – OnBoard enables the traffic office to check a driver’s status while en route to a relief point, so staff can identify reliefs which may experience problems.

“This offers a window of opportunity in which to deploy spare drivers to avert a failed relief and the many associated consequences.”
