New trailer diffuser can cut fuel bills by 4%, says Jost

Jost has launched a new roof diffuser which can be fitted to any type of trailer and, says the company, can cut fuel bills by as much as 4%.
The SDR diffuser reduces air turbulence and has been tested by vehicle manufacturers and transport operators. As well as improving fuel economy – and corresponding carbon emissions – the device also reduces dirt build-up on the rear of the vehicle in wet weather conditions. The patented, aerodynamic airflow system can be installed as an after-market accessory to a wide range of trailers and requires no maintenance. It can also be painted to match the trailer. Jost says the diffuser can save up to 1.4 litres of fuel per 100km, or 2,100 litres per year, based on an annual distance of 150,000km, and depending on factors such as driving speed, tyres, route profile, etc. It is, says the company, a cost-effective alternative to the teardrop trailer, which requires significant upfront investment and reduces the total load volume.
