Glass’s so-called ‘used van hero’ for November is the Nissan Cabstar, with the guide describing the vehicle’s lightweight cab-over design as “pretty much unique” for the UK commercial vehicle market.
Each month, Glass’s commercial vehicle editors name the van they believe offers the best value, quality and ability.
Andy Picton (pictured), senior commercial vehicle editor, says the Cabstar’s layout makes it popular, both as a standard dropside model and as the basis for many conversions.
“Because of its uniqueness, values tend to hold well but, generally speaking, this is a well-built vehicle and even an older example should give trouble-free service,” he says.
“There are only really a couple of problem areas – one is potential rust under the driver’s seat and the other is that, compared to most modern vans, equipment is sparse.”
The Cabstar has been around since 1968 with the latest variant, the NT400, hitting the market in 2011.
Glass’s says the ideal buy is a 34.10 SWB dropside 30-40k 2008/58, which should be priced at around £5,500.
