NV Transport crops fuel costs with Mercedes Actros

Tractor Units
Fresh product distributor NV Transport has taken delivery of eight Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors – its single largest order for new trucks.
The deal follows an 18-month evaluation of three marques, during which the Chichester-based operator found Mercedes to be top for fuel efficiency. Supplied by dealer Pentagon Commercials, the Actros 2548 units were all specified with StreamSpace cabs and the 476bhp straight-six engines, driving through PowerShift 3 automated transmissions. They have been supplied with a five-year R&M contract. "Our previous Axor units average 8.5 mpg but, after two weeks on the road, the lowest we'd seen from one of the new Actros was 9.5 mpg, while the best was 12 mpg," reports NV Transport director Steven Swinkels. "They're already performing better than we'd hoped in terms of overall mpg returns, and the driver feedback has been very positive," he adds. NV Transport specialises in chilled distribution and is part of Madestein UK, a leading grower of salad crops and herbs. Its 17-strong fleet of tractors now includes 12 Mercedes vehicles.
